New Bridge on Father's Day

The provincial park lake in the background and my awesome kids in the foreground

We all loaded into the family van and took a drive over the new bridge. This bridge dramatically reduces the amount of time it takes to get to the other side of the river.
Its a toll bridge and this is where it happens

We took a drive to the other side and had a good look around. It was sunny when we left home and by the time we got over the bridge and into the park it was raining. Well this is not unusual. The other side normally gets more rain than we do because it's next to the mountains. No wonder its so lush and beautiful.
By the way, I was knitting on the way there and back. I am making another Baby Surprise Sweater out of Bamboo Wool.

Strawberries!!! Yummmmmmeeeee........

Today we are going to the strawberry fields and we are going to buy some flats of strawberries. I wish that I could say that I enjoyed or even liked just a little bit picking strawberries or any berry for the matter but I don't. Kneeling on the ground and bending over for a few hours is just not my idea of fun. give me a shovel and I will dig for some potatoes pick peas and beans but berries? not so much.
When the kids were little John would take them picking. Of they went with their little buckets and boots and all excited. They would come back with red juice all over them and smelling very sweet. Those kind of trips would cure their longing for strawberries for awhile. Of course, they ate more than what they picked. Everyone was happy.
After cleaning and hulling and slicing I'd freeze them. We'd have them on icecream or just plain for dessert back in the day when we had dessert. Now everyone wants them for smoothies. They make the best smoothies. This means I need alot more than ever. I also need a boat load of blueberries which are also excellent in smoothies. Having a Magic Bullet really helps. Once we bought one we have used it every day. Its a great little machine and easy to clean.
We had to order more rings for the lid and so we had them sent to our american mailbox. I came back over the border and they asked me if I had anything to declare and I said I bought a part for my Bullet..... Sometimes I'm just amazed at what comes out of my mouth.

Wow, that was back breaking work.
Good thing I didn't pick them :)

Denise has returned!!!

My travelling daughter has returned from her trip down under. It was so awesome to see her walk towards us at the airport. She looked fantastic. Well, maybe a bit skinnier, but fantastic. She had a great time and as the days go by we hear more and more stories of her adventures.
Since she came from the winter to our summer she is very pale. Her friends even say she glows because she is so pale.
At the moment she is sleeping. I think coming back is a harder adjustment than going there. She arrived at 10:30 pm and didn't sleep till the next day. She was wide awake the whole night and was waiting for us to wake up. The adrenaline didn't help either. So hopefully she can adjust soon and start looking for a job.
Travelling is expensive even if you live in your car. Yes, you read that right. She went on a road trip with two other girls and to save money they slept in their car only checking or sneaking into hostels to have a shower and do their wash. They ate alot of Mr. Noodles and pasta and carefully bought other food on a strict budget.
Anyways she had a wonderful time and I'm sure she is planning her next trip. Not that I like that but she has that wandering look in her eyes.

Bungy jumping, hiking, buying a caravan and travelling in New Zealand
Elephant riding in Thailand
Four wheeling trip, Resort visiting, Snorkaling and Surfing in Australia.
These are just some of the things that I know about.

Chicken Tikka Masala

Oh my goodness!!! This recipe from Ryan is amazing!!! The flavor is out of this world. Check it out. The Pioneer Woman. Ree Drummond has great recipes on her blog. She often has Ryan as a guest cook. Check out his blog. I just don't see why people need to buy recipe books anymore. Other than the fact that you have a book in your hand I still can't see it. There are so many people out there willing to share their recipes. Check out this site. There is an amazing amount of information. Really check it out. Here is a Dutch lady giving her version of recipes. Always something interesting. She gives a Dutch slant to her recipes so if you have a Dutch heritage check it out. Another interesting cook. Free recipes!!! What more do you want?
